| RoseHaven, a Christian ministry that opened in Oldham County in 1999, gives shelter and nurturing support to women and children whose lives have been disrupted by domestic violence, divorce, homelessness and other crises. It serves women from the Oldham, Trimble, and Henry county areas without regard to race, creed, age, or marital status. "RoseHaven gives women and their children the safety and security of home while they work to rebuild their lives and become self-sufficient," says Executive Director Rosemarie Boyd.
Founded by former Executive Director Betty Decker, RoseHaven was transferred to Good News Shelter Corporation upon Mrs. Decker's retirement at the end of 2008. Good News Shelter operates the Good News Homes transitional housing program for homeless families in Oldham County and has a similar mission to RoseHaven's. "We were honored to be given the opportunity to continue RoseHaven's work in our community," says Boyd. "At Good News Homes, we serve primarily single women, as RoseHaven does," says Boyd. "It's the single women who are most often poor, struggling to raise their families with low pay and few resources, and often victims of abuse. During the past eight years, we have been working with families with exactly these issues and problems." |

RoseHaven residents are expected to hold jobs or attend school in preparation for establishing independent lives. The center staff makes sure each woman receives everything she needs to achieve her personal goals and work toward stable permanent housing. This assistance ranges from help obtaining employment, transportation, necessary medical care, counseling, and education, to budgeting, parenting and life skills training and more. "Our goal is always to ensure that every client leaves with all the tools she needs to make it on her own," says Boyd. "Whether it takes six months or two years just depends on the work she needs to do to achieve that goal.
RoseHaven's Christian philosophy is manifested through the love and fellowship that is shown to our women and children, rather than by any religious requirement. This love from God flows to our clients through the caring support of staff, our church friends and the many contributors and volunteers who give of themselves for the benefit of our families.
"In as much as you have done it unto the least of these, my brothers, you have done it unto me." - - Matthew 25:40
